Episcopal Church Women
The Church of the Good Shepherd has a very active ECW group.
We strive to abide by the Episcopal Church Women mission of doing Christ’s ministry, fostering spiritual growth, service, and fellowship.
We meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month and partake in corporate communion every 3rd Sunday, after which we sponsor the Coffee Hour. We also sponsor the Black History Month brunch and Father’s Day brunch.
CGS ECW sponsors activities like Games Night at the church, where families of the congregation and the community are welcome. We had a very successful Tea Party this year. Our trip to Hunterdon Playhouse was also very successful.
We provide scholarships for our graduating high school seniors who are enrolled in an institution of higher learning; provide a Thanksgiving meal for residents in a homeless shelter in the Bronx; hold a yearly food drive for City Harvest Feed the Children; participate in providing gifts at Christmastime through Prison Ministry; and deliver gift baskets to the shut-ins in our parish at Christmastime. We join with the congregation in an annual backpack drive to benefit students in our community.
This year, we also sponsored speakers for the congregation on Alzheimer’s disease and the Bronx DA, who spoke about being a successful woman.
We attend yearly meetings and conferences of the New York Diocesan ECW and UTO. One of our members, Ms. Eleanor Larrier, is the current ECW EDNY Social Concerns Coordinator. We are also members of the diocesan book club, which meets via Zoom quarterly.
Our arms are wide open to welcoming new members.
